1903 Invitation to St. Hyacinth’s Commencement Exercises

Invitation to the graduation of Mary Catherine O’Kelly.

The ceremony was held at Monroe, Louisiana’s first theater. Sam, Barney, and Isadore Sugar were brothers who built a thriving grocery business. After achieving success, they built Sugar’s Opera House with Isadore as the primary manager. The building was erected in about 1901 and still stands at 120 Walnut Street. It is currently home to a pool and outdoor furniture shop.
